Art is Therapy @ Gargash Hospital

At the deepest level, the creative process and the healing process arise from a sole source. When you are an artist, you are a healer; a wordless trust of the same mystery is the foundation of your work and its integrity.

Funun Arts Group along with Gargash Hospital organized an event called – Art Therapy – on 6th September at Gargash Hospital, where the patients of the hospital and artists of Funun Arts worked together creating a beautiful and vibrant morning. This event conveyed a strong message that “Art is a therapy and is a part of communication that focuses on the creative process for building up an artistic approach to recover a person’s mental, physical, & emotional well-being.” Working for the wellness of the society and giving back to the community was the common motive which brought Funun Arts and Gargash Hospital together to organize this event, where 20 patients and 20 artists created a magical morning.

Shiba Khan and Farah Khan, founders of Funun Arts said: “Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors the flowers, so does the art color the life. As very well said by Pablo Picasso “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Every art event is always a new challenge for us because we don’t want to end up with just an event, we want to leave a long-lasting positive impact on the community. When art enthusiasts attend our events, we always want them to experience something new and carry home a positive message.”

Ghada Sawalmah, CEO, Gargash Hospital said: “Art can mean different things to different people. When the patients are going through a difficult phase in their lives, they often tend to be reclusive, which further aggravates their agony.     The aim of today’s session was not to eliminate their sufferings, but to enlighten them that art can be a form in which they can express themselves. Expression is itself transformation and art is a good medium of expression. Today experts from Funun Arts collaborated with our patients and doctors to delve deep into their inner selves and help them express through their piece of arts. We believe that this will support the healing process of the patients, and we would be keen to explore the benefits of art therapy further.”

Lubna Naeem, Director (Operations), Gargash Hospital, said: “We had a unique experience today. We got to see the therapeutic power of colors, which not only gives relaxation, but also brings happiness. And this was clear on the faces of all. The process of creating an artwork involves expressing oneself artistically. This can help patients understand themselves, their inner conflicts, channelize their feelings, reduce stress, and to improve their overall self-esteem. “We thank all the artists from the Funun Arts Group for such a wonderful session”

The 20 participating artists are:

Stefania Pomillo, an Italian artist said:” Being an artist, we have that magical wand, which can bring happiness to many people and help them come out of their sufferings. Art is like filling colors to life as an artist’s palette is full of colors. We are looking forward for more such sessions where we can give back to the community through art as it is the best way to express oneself.”

Kavita Sriram, an Indian Artist said, “I am so glad to be the part of this event. What is the most important and everlasting feeling one can have, is what I am having it here working with the patients. Colors have their own power; power of bringing calmness and smile and that smile is most precious. So thankful to Funun Arts for creating such a beautiful event”
