Abstract Artist | Visionary Creator | “The Colourman of Dubai”

Anjini Prakash Laitu has over 250 exhibitions to his credit at the age of 84. He has established himself as a towering figure in the art world. Fondly known as the Colourman of Dubai, the veteran artist is renowned for his kaleidoscopic canvases that burst with vibrant hues, reflecting his boundless creativity and zest for life. A master of abstract art, Anjini embodies the spirit of a true artist, with his colorful persona and bespoke ensembles making him a frequent presence at art openings across the UAE.
Anjini’s journey as an artist began in the culturally rich city of Mathura, India, where the exuberant festival of Holi ignited his lifelong fascination with vivid colors. His affinity for art and literature was nurtured by his mother, Krishna Laitu, a multilingual scholar and avid reader, and further inspired by his siblings—renowned journalists and authors. However, it wasn’t until after his retirement at the age of 60 that Anjini fully embraced his passion, proving that creativity knows no age.
Following a successful career with Thapar Group of Companies in India and Al Tajir Glass Industries in the UAE, Anjini turned to art full-time, enrolling in a painting course at the Sharjah Art Foundation and graduating in 2003. Since then, his works have graced prestigious galleries and exhibitions across India, Nepal, and the UAE, including the Arab Cultural Club and the Emirates Fine Arts Society in Sharjah, World Art Dubai, and the India Habitat Centre in Delhi. He has also been honored with a UAE Golden Visa for his artistic contributions.
A man of deep humility, Anjini credits his intuition as his greatest guide in his artistic journey. He describes his creative process as an organic exploration, where he begins with a few colors and lets the painting unfold naturally. “When I set out to paint a canvas, I never know how it will evolve. My intuition and the harmony of colors lead the way,” he explains.
Anjini’s work goes beyond canvases; he channels his artistic vision into textiles and accessories, leaving his signature on sarees, dupattas, shoes, and bags. His innovative spirit also finds expression in creating art materials from everyday objects, encouraging budding artists to embrace creativity without financial constraints.
Abstract art remains his deepest passion. “There’s a magical tranquillity in abstract art that soothes my soul and drives my urge to create,” he shares. Whether creating his own works or reviewing those of others, Anjini seeks harmony in colors and lines, a pursuit that continues to evolve as he paints tirelessly in his Sharjah home studio, producing seven to eight new canvases each month.
